Derrick attended the Desert Sun School from 1981 to 1982. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering. He now works in Silicon Valley as a strategic marketing manager for an electronic design automation company. Derrick and his wife have a three and a half year old daughter.
